TOP 10 TEAMS OF 2012

#1: Mutual of America

Mutual of America has been walking with us since 1991 and in that time they have raised over ONE MILLION dollars!  They have been the number one corporate fundraising team for the last seven years, and maintained this standing10 times since they started their team. Their dedication and team spirit is best represented by the commitment of their team captain, Dominick Tanzi, who has led this team for 21 years! We also want to thank the Mutual of America for their generous matching gift program.

#2: J-Walkers

J-Walkers are the first recipient of our Million Dollar Team award! This team has been walking with us since 2001 and they passed the million dollar mark during Walk MS 2012. Not only did they take home the Million Dollar Team award but they also received the #1 Friends and Family team award among a number of others. Jackie Popper leads this team of cose to 100 members along with her husband Adam and their children, Hannah and Max. Their outstanding efforts do not go unnoticed,This team goes down in the Walk MS history books.

#3: THE CURE - S'myelin Brite

THE CURE – S’myelin Brite has been walking with us since 2001 and in that time these two combined teams have raised over $768,000. Now led by team captains Jennifer Schack and Robert Sorin, this team has been no stranger to awards and recognition. In 2012 they received awards for being the Top Fundraising Average Team and the #3 Fundraising Team among others. We have seen this team expand their fundraising by more than eight times from 2010 to 2011 and we can’t wait to see what they do in the future.                 

#4: MS Hope - Loving Lois - Got Wine?

MS Hope – Loving Lois – Got Wine? is another one of our veteran Walk MS teams. Since 2001, when these three teams joined forces, they have raised over $1,870,000. In 2012 they were our #4 Fundraising Team. Team captain Elissa Levy is very connected to the National MS Society. Along with leading her Walk MS team she is also deeply involved with the NOW research campaign, a transformative MS research initiative, and she travels the country on behalf of the Society to speak about this MS research revolution.

#5: Wednesday Warriors

Co captains Carolyn Protass and Amanda Caban, met 14 years ago at a support group for the newly diagnosed and together they embody what Walk MS is all about: community, friendship and fundraising. Since this team was formed five years ago they have raised nearly $300,000 toward a world free of MS.

#6: Professional Women and Multiple Milers

Professional Women and Multiple Milers have raised over $885,000 since 2001 when these two teams have combined into one. Captain Lori Bores, along with co-captains Lucille Zarin and Paula Rivera, have been leading this team for many years and we have seen the team do some incredible fundraising, spending a number of years in the triple digits.

#7: Hot Flashes

Hot Flashes have been walking with us since 2000 and in that time they have had a presence at Walk MS in New York City, Westchester and Rockland. It is teams like this one that really make a difference, and we are so lucky to have them on our side. Alan Legatt is truly an all-star team captain. Alan has led this team since its creation and manages all of the teams at each walk site.

#8: Mount Sinai CGD MS Team

Mount Sinai CGD MS Team started participating in Walk MS in 2002 and in the last five years their outstanding fundraising has contributed to a total of $220,000. Aliza Ben-Zacharia leads this team along with her co-captain Tova Epstein. They have done a fantastic job growing the team and encouraging fundraising over the years.

#9: Morgante's Multiple Successes

Morgante's Multiple Successes is another one of our veteran teams. This team has been participating since 2001 and is led by Greg Bennetts, Theresa LaRocca and Ann Marie Johnson. We have watched this team grow over the years, increasing their fundraising from year to year. Since 2001, Morgante's Multiple Successes has raised over $220,000 and their team captains are a big reason for their success.

#10: SayHey 2012

SayHey 2012 has been participating in Walk MS since 2009 and in that time this team has raised over $160,000. Led by Scott Richter, they were our #2 Fundraising team at the Walk MS Westchester in 2011. Their team spirit at Walk MS can be seen not only on the route but also in the Super Team area. In 2012, this team had an incredible 46 members and with each of them wearing a matching team shirt they stood out in the crowd.
